The excitement leading up to UFC 193

UFC 193 will take place this Saturday night at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. This will be the organization's first time having an event in Melbourne, and second time in it's history having both the main and co-main event headlined by women fighters. Below are reasons why I'm excited for the two title bouts:

Main Event Title Bout

The main event will be for the Women’s Bantamweight Championship between the current champion, Ronda Rousey, and top contender Holly Holm. From what she has accomplished in both judo, and mixed martial arts so far, Ronda Rousey has definitely established herself as one of the most dominating athletes in the world. She has help changed the way how people view women in sports today. Rousey is currently undefeated (12-0) in MMA, and is the pound for pound ranked #4 fighter in the UFC. She possesses phenomenal takedown, and submission abilities. Her upcoming opponent, is someone who shouldn’t be taken likely. Holly Holm has an impressive professional boxing record with a total of thirty-three wins out of thirty-eight fights. She held multiple titles from different boxing organizations. Similar to Rousey, she has an undefeated record (9-0) in MMA as well. What I’m going to keep an eye on in this title bout, is how Rousey matches with Holm standing up, and how Holm matches up with Rousey on the ground.

Co-Main Event Title Bout

The co-main event will be for the Women’s Strawweight Championship between the dangerous Polish striker and current champion, Joanna Jędrzejczyk, and her challenger Valérie Létourneau. In her previous bouts, Joanna Jędrzejczyk has shown the MMA world her great takedown defense, but most notably, her superb striking ability. Prior to her MMA career, Jędrzejczyk had competed in Muay Thai for 10 years. She has won seventy matches, and held ten championships. She has complied a total of 37 wins during her amateur kickboxing career, and 27 wins during her professional kickboxing career. Her upcoming opponent, the French Canadian MMA fighter, Valerie Letourneau, has also shown the world her impressive stand up skills in a slug fest against Elizabeth Phillips at UFC 174. Letourneau was able to earned that win because, she kept pressuring her Phillips, and was able to land combinations throughout the fight. I can't wait to see how Jędrzejczyk matches up Létourneau this Saturday night.
