The excitement leading up to UFC 248 (Co-main & Main Events)


 

This Saturday, the UFC will return with UFC 248 live in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main card will include two title bouts. In the first title bout of the evening, Weili Zhang will defend her title for the first time against former titleholder and striker, Joanna Jedrzejczyk. On the top of the card, fellow recently crowned champion, Israel Adesanya, will look to make his first title defense against the always dangerous, Yoel Romero.

Weili Zhang— 20 wins | 1 loss

Weili Zhang currently sits on the top of the Women’s UFC Strawweight division. She is the current champion and the first-ever Chinese champion in the promotion’s history. She started her professional MMA journey back in 2013. In her first professional MMA bout, she lost via decision, but since then, Zhang has wreaked havoc by capturing 20 consecutive wins. Within the last two years, since making her UFC debut in 2018, she secured four straight victories. Her previous win was in a championship fight over vicious striker and former champion, Jéssica Andrade, in which Zhang won in round one via KO.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk— 16 wins | 3 losses

Joanna Jedrzejczyk is a former Muay Thai kickboxer and former UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion. Before entering the UFC, Jedrzejczyk competed in both kickboxing and Muay Thai, in which she gathered more than 50 victories. While riding an undefeated winning streak of 7–0, she made her UFC debut in 2014. She secured her debut win via decision and then went on to improve her record to 14–0 within three years. Between 2014 to 2017, Jedrzejczyk captured the UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship and successfully defended it five times.

Israel Adesanya— 18 wins | 0 losses

Israel Adesanya is currently an undefeated titleholder in the UFC’s middleweight division with a perfect record of 18–0. Adesanya made his promotional debut at UFC 221, where he secured the victory by way of second-round TKO. In only seven fights after making his debut, Adesanya earned four Performance of the Night awards, two Fight of the Night awards, and a Fight of the Year award as well. The accomplishments didn’t stop there for Israel Adesanya. He became the interim UFC Middleweight Championship last year, and within the same year, he successfully won and unified the UFC Middleweight Championship.

Yoel Romero — 13 wins | 4 losses

Across the cage from the champion will be a dangerous competitor and former freestyle wrestler, Yoel Romero. Out of his 13 victories, Romero has secured 11 wins by way of KO|TKO. While competing under the UFC banner, he shared the octagon with top competitors and former champions, including Lyoto Machida, Ronaldo Souza, Chris Weidman, Luke Rockhold, and Robert Whittaker, among others. Similar to his upcoming opponent, Romero is a winner of multiple UFC bonus awards as well.

  • Earned five Fight of the Night awards
  • Captured majority of his wins by way of knockout (11 KOs)
With two title bouts and multiple intriguing match ups, UFC 248 has all the ingredients of being a night to remember in MMA. It is going to be exciting to see how all of the fights play out.
