Fight History: “Namajunas vs. Jedrzejczyk”


Saturday, UFC will make their return back to Brooklyn, NY with UFC 223: “Holloway vs. Nurmagomedov.” In the co-main event of the evening, current UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion, Rose Namajunas and former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will clash in a title rematch. Before this title bout goes down, it's essential to provide some history on these two competitors while highlighting their accomplishments inside the fight game.

Current UFC Women’s Strawweight champion, Namajunas has secured seven wins throughout her professional career with five coming by way of submission. She started her professional career back in 2013 at Invicta FC 4: Esparza vs. Hyatt where he scored a third-round submission win over Emily Kagan. Within the same year, she secured another submission victory but this time in the very first round. After her UFC debut, Namajunas would then gather three consecutive wins over elite competitors in her division such as Angela Hill, Paige VanZant, and Tecia Torres. Last year, Namajunas earned key victories against dangerous strikers Michelle Waterson and in a title bout against Joanna Jędrzejczyk. Throughout her UFC run so far, she has rightfully won two “Performance of the Night” awards and one “Fight of the Night” award.

Throughout her professional MMA career, Jędrzejczyk achieved 14 wins out of 15 professional MMA bouts. Due to her Muay Thai and kickboxing background, she has displayed incredible striking skills in all her fights. Jędrzejczyk is a former multiple time world kickboxing champion as well as a five-time Muay Thai gold medalist. Jędrzejczyk made his UFC debut in 2014 where he scored a unanimous decision victory over Juliana Lima extending her winning streak to seven. Jędrzejczyk would then extend her winning streak to 14 in which she picked up wins over Carla Esparza, Valérie Létourneau, and Cláudia Gadelha among others. After capturing UFC gold over Esparza, Jędrzejczyk successfully defended the belt five times.

Collectively, these two elite competitors have a total 11 wins by way of stoppage which means this title rematch has all the potential of being an instant classic. Also, this main card will feature a main event title bout between current UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway and Khabib Nurmagomedov along with other elite talents such as Anthony Pettis, Michael Chiesa, and Karolina Kowalkiewicz. This fight card will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY and should be fun to watch.
